MANISTEE — Ken Falk has been appointed Manistee County sheriff, replacing John O’Hagan who retired at the end of 2019.

O’Hagan accepted a full time faculty position as a law enforcement instructor at West Shore Community College.

O’Hagan was in the third year of his first term as sheriff. He was elected in November of 2016, defeating Falk, who was lieutenant and the county’s emergency manager. O’Hagan then appointed Falk as undersheriff.

“Ken has served the citizens of Manistee County for 28 years, the last three of which as the undersheriff,” states the sheriff’s office Facebook page. “Ken’s unwavering commitment to our community will continue to make Manistee County a safer place.”

Falk has appointed Lt. Brian Gutowski as undersheriff.

“Undersheriff Gutowski has served the citizens of Manistee County since 2007 as a road patrol deputy, road patrol sergeant, and most recently road patrol lieutenant/emergency management coordinator.”

Retired Sheriff O’Hagan.

Most of O’Hagan’s 31 years in law enforcement were with the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office. He also served on Hart Police Department and Scottville Police Department.
