National Day of Prayer events scheduled Thursday.

April 30, 2019

MANISTEE — On Thursday, May 2 people from across Manistee County will gather at noon at the Armory Youth Project at 555 1st Street for the annual National Day of Prayer celebration.

While the National Day of Prayer has occurred since 1952, 31 years ago, President Ronald Reagan signed a law designating it as always being the first Thursday of May.

This year’s National Day of Prayer theme is “Love One Another.” The theme comes from the words of Jesus in John 13:34, “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.”

“Our Nation’s motto ‘In God We Trust’ ws not chosen lightly.  It reflects a basic recognition that there is a divine authority in the universe to which this nation owes homage.  Throughout our history, Americans have put their faith in God and no one can doubt that we have been blessed for it. The earliest settlers of this land came in search of religious freedom.  It was the hard work of those people and the succeeding generations, the freedoms we enjoy, and our faith in God that has built this country and made us the envy of the world.” said David Smeltzer, chair of the event.
