Sheriff’s office reminds residents to look out for counterfeit money.

MANISTEE – The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to inspect any cash they receive, because it could be counterfeit.

The sheriff’s office received a complaint Monday, March 11, of counterfeit money being passed, states a press release. “The case involved a $20 bill that had the phrase ‘copy money’ printed under the serial number. Other cases within our county involved the words ‘motion picture use only’ printed on the bills.

“The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to closely inspect the cash they are receiving,” the press release states. “If you believe someone is trying to pass a counterfeit bill, please call 911 or Manistee County Central Dispatch at 231-723-6241 to file a complaint.”
