Missing teen found by campers.

MANISTEE TOWNSHIP — Manistee County Sheriff John O’Hagan releases more details on how 16-year-old Garrett Sheaks was found Friday night. Sheaks had been missing since Monday, April 2.

O’Hagan said Sheaks was located about 9 p.m. Orchard Beach State Park by a Paw Paw family that was camping there.

“They were there  for less than two hours when the juvenile came up and knocked on their camper door,” O’Hagan said. “The juvenile was complaining of being extremely cold with numbness in his feet.”

O’Hagan said 911 was called immediately, and troopers from the Michigan State Police and deputies from the sheriff’s office responded.

“Garrett informed the officers on scene he had taken shelter in a bathroom at the south end of the park. His bike and belongings were recovered from that location.

He was transported to Munson Healthcare Hospital for treatment for hypothermia. This morning he is in stable condition, O’Hagan said.
