Cleon Township fire death being investigated. 

CLEON TOWNSHIP — Law enforcement personnel are investigating a death that occurred early this morning during a house fire at 17611 Wells Road.

Cleon Township Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 1:50 a.m.  Upon arrival, they found that the residence was fully engulfed. Manistee County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to the scene to investigate. The owner of the residence was contacted; however she was not at the residence.

Once the fire was extinguished, a search of the residence was conducted, according to Undersheriff Kenneth Falk.  Firefighters located a subject in the bathroom of the residence, who appears to have perished in the fire, Falk said.  Positive identification of the person has not yet been completed and the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall and the Manistee County Medical Examiner are on scene, and investigating the incident.

The Cleon Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Maple Grove Township Fire Department, Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital, Benzie County EMS.
