Farm Bureau essay winners announced.

MANISTEE — Three Manistee Middle School students have been named local winners in the 49th annual America & Me Essay Contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. They include: Calli Ronning, first place; Solana Postma, second place; and Alyssa Jackoviak, third place. All three received certificates for their achievement. As the school’s first place winner, Ronning’s name will also be engraved on a plaque for permanent display in the school. The school’s participation in the event was sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Matt Knizacky of Manistee.

The first place essay now advances to the state level competition, from which the top 10 essays in Michigan will be selected in April. Each will receive a plaque, a medallion and a cash award of $1,000. In addition, the top 10 will be honored at a banquet in Lansing, meet with Michigan’s top government leaders, and be the featured guests at a Lansing Lugnuts minor league baseball game dedicated in their honor.

Several thousand eighth grade students from over 350 Michigan schools participated in the 2017-2018 contest. The topic was “My Personal Michigan Hero.”
