Manistee Civic Players present ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.’

Manistee — In the tradition of past Sleighbell Parade weekends, the Manistee Civic Players will perform “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”, along with a Community Sing-a-long, December 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9, 10 at the Manistee High School.

Directors Tom Richert and Bonnie Brown, have a very energetic cast, some of whom are new to the stage.

“As a first time director, I am enjoying watching each person develop their character and really bring it to life,” said Brown. “Co-directing with Tom Richert is a real joy, as he brings his professional expertise and skills and a great sense of humor.”

The show has lots of laughs but there are also many thoughtful moments as the Herdman children connect to the traditional Christmas story being put on by their local church in their own way, and the regular Sunday school kids see it in perhaps a new way. There will be Christmas carols performed during the show and we invite the audience to join us for a carol sing at the end with our pianist, Blade Gates and the cast.

“We also have a great production team taking care of lights, sound, costumes, props, makeup, and set building,” Brown said. “Many thanks to the Manistee High School for welcoming the Manistee Civic Players into the building for both rehearsals and performances.”

DESCRIPTION:  “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is a hilarious Christmas tale that is perfect for all ages.  A couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids – probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won’t believe the mayhem, and the fun, when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on.

This delightful comedy is adapted from the best-selling young adult book and has become a holiday staple for groups across the United States!  It features plenty of great roles for children and adults and has many favorite Christmas carols that will be included in the sing-a-long, and, of course, tons of laughs.
