Governor orders flags lowered in honor of Texas shooting victims.

LANSING — Gov. Rick Snyder joined President Trump in honoring the victims of the shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas by lowering U.S. and Michigan flags to half-staff today through Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, on all state buildings and within the state Capitol complex.

“I am joining President Trump’s call to honor the victims of the Sutherland Springs shooting that took the lives of more than 25 innocent people,” Snyder said. “This sinister act of violence that occurred in a place of worship is both heartbreaking and appalling. The people and state of Michigan stand in support of Texas and offer our prayers to the victims, their families and loved ones.”

This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2013-10. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff. Flags should return to full-staff after sunset on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017.

When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
