BROWN TOWNSHIP — A 45-year-old Kaleva man died Saturday after he was involved in a motorcycle/deer crash. According to the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred about 10:21 p.m. Jason Wayne Pate was traveling on his motorcycle on Coates Highway, just east of Milarch Road when his motorcycle struck a deer in the roadway. Pate was transported by ambulance to Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital and later died of his injuries.

Undersheriff Kenneth Falk said Pate was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Responding to the scene were MCSO, Onekema Township Fire Dept., and Munson Ambulance Service.
