Manistee man, 69, faces multiple drug charges.

MANISTEE — A 69-year-old Manistee man was arraigned Thursday, June 15, in Manistee County’s 85th District Court on charges of methamphetamine possession, analogue possession, maintaining a drug house and marijuana possession, according to State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT) Det./Lt. Andrew Ambrose.

“On June 15, 2017, Richard John Welch, 69, of Manistee was arraigned in the 85th District Court of Manistee on a four-count warrant. Welch has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of analogues, maintaining a drug house and possession of marijuana,” Ambrose stated. “The most serious charge is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Welch was arrested on June 14 at the Michigan Department of Corrections Probation/Parole Office in Manistee. Welch was lodged at the Manistee County Jail. Welch has since posted a bond of $1,000 and has been released.

“In the summer of 2016, detectives from SSCENT assisted the Michigan Department of Corrections Probation/Parole Office with an investigation involving a parolee. The investigation took place in the 400 block of Manistee’s First Street. Evidence located at the scene resulted in the charges authorized by the Manistee County Prosecutor’s Office.”
