‘Portable lab’ in hotel parking lot leads to meth charges.

MANISTEE — Carrie Marlene Whitford, 32, of Wellston has been arraigned in the 85th District Court on felony charges of operating/maintaining a laboratory involving methamphetamine and Ephedrine/Pseudoephedrine – purchase/possess to make meth.

“Whitford was the subject of an investigation that started in April of 2016 when State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT) detectives responded to a reported portable methamphetamine laboratory in the parking lot of the Manistee Hotel,” states a SSCENT press release. “After conducting several interviews and gathering evidence, the case was presented to the Manistee County Prosecutor’s office, which issued the charges.”

Whitford’s most serious charge, operating/maintaining a meth lab, is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and/or a $25,000.00 fine. Whitford is currently lodged in the Manistee County Jail on a $10,000/10 percent bond.

SSCENT detectives were assisted by members of the Manistee City Police, the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post, and the Little River Tribal Police.
