Credit unions merge.

April 10, 2015

MANISTEE — Filer Credit Union merged with Manistee Public Employees Credit Union effective March 31. The two credit unions will continue operations together under the Filer Credit Union name. The merger has been in development for several months and has already been approved by the board of directors of both credit unions and the credit union members.

“Manistee Public Employees Credit Union (MPE) has an excellent reputation in our market,” said Filer Credit Union CEO Patty Preuss. “We are very excited for this opportunity to combine the success that they’ve had in this industry with what Filer Credit Union has been able to do, especially our growth over the past 5 years.”

“When both boards of directors met to discuss the terms of the merger, it was obvious that this was going to be a good fit,” MPE Manager Karen Daly said,  “It was just two Manistee credit unions, both of whom had been offering excellent service to the community for many years, getting together to discuss how they would continue serving the community under a shared name.”

Filer Credit Union is the longest serving financial institution in Manistee County and has $117 million in assets and approximately 8,500 members. MPE last reported assets of about $1 million with around 300 members. Filer Credit Union will officially welcome MPE members at its annual meeting on April 27, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the Filer Credit Union main office, 1117 28th Street. Samples of the new branding will also be on display.
